Involved in a Landlord/Tenant Dispute?

Defend your Interests by Calling Experienced Attorney, Richard T. Connors

The area of law regulating landlord/tenant relationships and disputes can be convoluted and confusing, even to long-time landlords and tenants. Landlord/tenant disputes can threaten the financial well-being of both parties. Damaged property or unpaid rent can cause financial hardships for landlords. If you're a tenant, a landlord's failure to maintain property or honor a contract can strain your finances and violate your rights.

To understand your legal position, options and rights in a landlord/tenant dispute, call me at 781-593-4146 to schedule a free consultation. You can also contact me by e-mail.

With more than 20 years of legal experience in Lynn, Massachusetts, and the greater Boston area, I possess a keen understanding of both sides of landlord/tenant disputes. I provide vigorous, effective defense of your rights, assets and interests in pursuit of a favorable resolution of your disagreement.

Landlord/tenant disputes often arise over security deposits. Most landlords require payment of the first and last months of rent, as well as a security deposit before a tenant is allowed to occupy the property. The law holds landlords to some specific requirements, including the following:

  • The renter's security deposit must be put in escrow
  • If the landlord fails to put the security deposit in escrow, the landlord can, in some circumstances, owe the renter triple the amount of the security deposit, as well as interest and attorney fees
  • The security deposit must be deposited in a Massachusetts-based bank

If you have sustained an injury in a slip or fall on an apartment building property, you should contact an experienced lawyer who knows the State Sanitary Code, as well as laws applying to landlord negligence in properly maintaining property. An experienced attorney will also help you take your claim to the Housing Court or District Court, depending on which is best suited to your situation.
